As I write these words a battle is raging over the future of the Internet. At the heart of that battle is Internet piracy, a subject near and dear to me. For all intents and purposes Illumination Gallery would not exist without my ability to lift imagery from other websites. I view the Internet as a feeding ground. Artistically I process/transform preexistent imagery. Am I a pirate? Yes, I suppose I am. Certainly I can be accused of pirating the two root images for this animation. Obviously the animation could/would not exist if I had not lifted two images from the photo sections of the Adbusters and Anonymous Facebook pages. Then again, those two images were entirely repurposed and that is exactly what the Internet comes down to at its most basic level: an ever-shifting tapestry, constantly in flux. Bottom line: digital art cannot exist without Internet piracy. A warning to the powers that be: DON'T FUCK WITH THE FLUX!
